Abstract

Adult-onset hearing loss is a serious but frequently disregarded psychosocial stressor, especially in low-resource environments with limited access to mental health and rehabilitation treatments.  A 36-year-old male construction worker who had moderate-to-severe bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, followed by persistent depressed symptoms, irritability, and social disengagement, is the subject of this case study's psychological conceptualization and intervention.  In order to adapt hearing impairment, an eclectic, phase-based solution that integrated cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), supportive psychotherapy, and psychoeducation was put into place.  The main goals of therapy were behavioral activation, family participation, emotional validation, and reorganizing maladaptive thought patterns.  Improvements in mood, interpersonal communication, and vocational involvement were indicative of clinical success.  The instance emphasizes the intricate relationship between emotional health and sensory impairment and the effectiveness of flexible, affordable psychological therapies in public health systems.
