Abstract

Contextual Trait Resolution Methodology (CTRM) is introduced as a measurement approach that addresses the longstanding paradox of assessing executive behaviours, wherein trait dispositions, situational pressures, and contextual layers activate simultaneously in real-world decision scenarios. Traditional linear psychometrics, optimized for redundancy and high internal consistency, are unsuitable for constructs that become meaningful only when non-redundant components interact. Using triadic configurations, CTRM captures this functional interdependence by eliciting behaviours across layered contexts to identify an individual’s ability to differentiate and integrate situational cues while maintaining role-appropriate stability. Three empirical protocols were applied: elemental differentiation assessment, contextual stability reliability testing across multiple forms, and cross-frame invariance  as a tolerance benchmark. Low alpha values, supported by conceptual distinctiveness ratings, indicated successful non-redundancy, while confirmatory factor analysis was employed strategically as a linear-tolerance benchmark to demonstrate structural coherence, rather than to imply additive trait linearity or philosophical alignment with purely linear psychometrics. Subject matter ratings established discriminant clarity across six contextual domains. Findings support CTRM as a pathway to advance measurement beyond static trait inference, enabling detection of contextual intricacies, boundary activation, and emergent executive behaviour. This work introduces the first contextually grounded, triadic non-linear psychometric scale engineered to model structured behavioural complexity. Limitations include the need for broader cross-cultural replication, measurement invariance  analysis across demographic subgroups, and dependence on trained evaluators. Future work will extend hierarchical modelling, enhance rater calibration, and explore configurational learning patterns.
