Abstract

Academic motivation is a crucial factor influencing students’ learning, engagement, and academic success, particularly during adolescence—a stage marked by significant cognitive, emotional, and social changes. This study examines the role of positive reinforcement as an instructional strategy to enhance academic motivation among adolescent learners. Grounded in the principles of behaviorist theory, positive reinforcement involves the use of praise, rewards, and feedback to encourage desirable academic behaviors. Despite its widespread use, limited research has specifically explored its effectiveness in fostering motivation among adolescents within contemporary, learner-centered educational frameworks such as IB and MYP. This study aims to address this gap by investigating how reinforcement strategies impact students’ motivation, engagement, and academic performance. The findings are expected to provide valuable insights for educators by highlighting effective ways to apply reinforcement without undermining intrinsic motivation, thereby supporting sustained learning and improved educational outcomes in modern classroom environments.
