Abstract

This secondary study investigated the relationship among childhood trauma, emotional dysregulation, and teenage internet gaming disorder (IGD). It brought attention to the psychological processes, especially when unresolved trauma was present, that led teenagers to turn to internet gaming to cope. In this study, the adaptive and maladaptive effects of gaming were assessed using various theoretical models. The results showed that while gaming could provide momentary solace and an emotional diversion, over-reliance on it can impede emotional growth and exacerbate IGD. The study emphasised the value of helping adolescents who are trying to cope with trauma develop healthy coping mechanisms and emotional resilience.
