Mindfulness is the practice of purposely bringing one’s attention to the present- moment experience without evaluation, a skill one develops through meditation or other training. Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them. When an individual practices mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than the past or imagining the future. Anxiety is a feeling of fear, dread and uneasiness. It might cause you to sweat, feel restless and tense and have a rapid heartbeat. The cause of anxiety is unknown. Factors such as genetics, brain biology and chemistry, stress and your environment may play a role. Different types of anxiety disorders can have different symptoms. But they have a combination of anxious thoughts or beliefs that are hard to control. They make you feel restless and tense and interfere with your daily life physical symptoms, such as a pounding or rapid heartbeat, unexplained aches and pains, dizziness and shortness of breath and also change in behavior, such as avoiding everyday activities you used to do.
