Abstract

The parenting styles of young adults have a significant impact on their sense of self-worth and optimism. Optimism and self-esteem are closely connected and can have a reciprocal relationship, influencing each other in significant ways. Optimism is a mental attitude characterized by a positive outlook and a belief that things will generally turn out for the best. Self-esteem refers to a person’s perception of his or her overall worth and value. It is crucial component of psychological health and can influence many facets of a person’s life including their relationships, academic performance, and overall satisfaction. Different parenting approaches can either foster or hinder the growth of Self-esteem and Optimism. The aim of the study was to investigate correlates of Optimism, Parenting styles and Self-esteem among young adults. The study also looked at how parenting practices and optimism affected adult's self- esteem. A total sample of 100 young adults in the age 18-25 was collected. Standardized scales were used to measure parenting styles and self-esteem. The results found out that authoritative parenting was significantly positively correlated with both optimism and self-esteem. It was also found out that optimism and self-esteem are positively correlated. A substantial negative association between optimism and self-esteem was discovered to exist between authoritarian parenting. Recognizing the significance of parenting styles in shaping self-esteem and optimism can assist parents in creating a nurturing and empowering environment for their children, thereby promoting their psychological health and preparing them for a successful transition to maturity.
