Abstract

Intelligence and Distress are two distinctive factors, which every individual has in his/her daily life. The purpose of this study was to measure and analyse the emotional intelligence and emotional distress among performing artists and musicians. There have been researches, which proved a higher correlation exists between artists and have higher emotional intelligence than non-artists. The research was a chance, to prove the difference between the levels of emotional intelligence and emotional distress among performing artists and musicians. A total of 120 respondents participated in this study, out of them 60 were performing artists and 60 were musicians. To be precise, among the 60 performing artists there were 20 who were dancers, 10 were mime artists and the remaining 30 were theatre artists. Regarding musicians, 30 were instrumentalists and 30 were music composers. The two groups were assessed on the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire- Short Form (published in 2009) and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (published in 1994, revised in 2001.) An independent sample t- test was conducted to find out the differences between the two groups. The results illustrate that, there is a non- significant relationship between emotional intelligence and emotional distress for both the groups.
