A STUDY ON DEATH ANXIETY, SPIRITUALITY AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AMONG COLLEGE GOING STUDENTS

Abstract

To fulfil their futuristic desires and objectives, humans desire to live longer on this planet, which causes them to fear mortality. Today, people are more aware of their health and their financial situation, which creates a dread of death. A person may experience extreme mortality anxiety that disrupts the social life's equilibrium. Those who believe that death is unavoidable have a greater dread of missing or losing loved ones. Every religious text discusses existence after death. If we have become more spiritual, we are immune to these varieties of anxiety. Those with spirituality enjoy excellent mental and physical health. They have no fear of death and live a meaningful existence. Emotional intelligence is essential for solving everyday problems. It provides a comprehension of managing emotions and expressing them to others. The research aimed to study the relationship between spirituality, emotional intelligence, and death anxiety among college going students. Standardized tools were used to measure death anxiety, spirituality, and emotional intelligence among college going students. A total sample of 102 college students (Males 51 and Females 51) in age 18 to 25. The research found that spirituality is significantly positively correlated with emotional intelligence (r=0.589, p<.001). A negative but non-significant correlation between spirituality and death anxiety can also be seen. The results show that females are higher on spirituality (t=-3.037), and on regulation (t=-2.55) as compared to males. Since there is a notable dearth of research effort directed toward death anxiety, spirituality, and emotional intelligence, especially in the crucial aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, it becomes even more necessary to explore these relationships across cultures and societies; Additionally, studies should focus on young adults who are usually left out when it comes to transcendental variables such as these.
