A Correlational Study between Psychological Separation and Career Indecision among Young Adults

Abstract

The relationship between psychological separation and career decision of young adults was assessed. Separation-individuation and attachment are two developmental processes that lead to identity formation (Sullivan & Sullivan, 1980). Practically all of the major career choice and developmental theories recognize the significance of the family in the professional development of late teens and young adults to varied degrees. Correlational Analysis revealed that there is a significant relationship between psychological separation from mothers and career decision among young adults. The sample consists of survey data from 155 undergraduate students. The results from the current study further expand on the results from other studies in the effects of separation - individuation.
