Exploring The Intersection Between Neurodivergence and SGM Population: Literature Review
Keywords:
LGBTQ , mental health, executive functions, Neurodivergence, discriminationAbstract
The purpose of this article is to review the current literature on the intersectionality of neurodivergence and gender and sexual minority population and their mental health. Although there is growing interest in all these topics individually, there is a very limited understanding of how they interact with each other. The article primarily is focused on; neurodivergence, mental health, LGBTQ+, and executive function studies. The finding reflected that discrimination, prejudice, and stigmatisation act as major barriers for these populations to access essential resources, support systems, and opportunities. The review stresses the need for more inclusive approaches in both research and practice to promote well-being as there is a significant gap in comprehending how these two aspects of an individual interact and create affirming and supportive environments for the neuroqueer community.
