RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PARENTAL AUTHORITY TYPE AND NEUROTICISM IN PERSONALITY OF ADULTS

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between an individual’s parental authority style and levels of neuroticism. 100 adults (50 male and 50 female participants) were selected via purposive sampling for this study. Their responses were collected using Buri’s parental authority questionnaire and NEO-FFI-PI. Correlation between scores of neuroticisms and different parenting styles was calculated using SPSS, to see which parenting style is strongly correlated with development of neuroticism in an individual and which style correlates the least. Results and their analysis are presented in the document, along with their implications for parents and clinical practitioners. Suggestions for further research are also included towards the end of this report.
