THE INFLUENCE OF CHILDHOOD TRAUMA ON ALCOHOL USE AND SELF ESTEEM AMONG YOUNG ADULTS

Abstract

The current study set out to assess how early trauma affected young adults' alcohol consumption and sense of self (18–26 years old). Trauma experienced as a child has a lasting effect on a person's social, emotional, and cognitive development. Trauma can harm a person's identity and sense of self-worth, which can result in emotions of guilt, humiliation, and inadequacy. In the current study, 117 young individuals from the Delhi-NCR region were selected using a random sampling technique. An online Google form was used to administer the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Regression analysis and Pearson's correlation were performed quantitatively on the data using the statistical software for social sciences (SPSS).
