The findings revealed a significant and positive correlation of smartphone addiction with psychological ill health, physical ill health, lack of academic performance, poor social and family relationships. Authoritative parenting style had a negative, but non- significant correlation with smartphone dependency, ill health (both psychological and physical), academic performance and family or social relationships. Authoritarian parenting style had a significant positive correlation with smartphone dependency, psychological and physical ill health, lack of academic performance and poor social relationships. It also has a non- significant correlation with poor family relationships and negative, non-significant relation with authoritative parenting style. Permissive parenting style has a significant positive correlation with smartphone dependency, psychological ill health, physical ill health, lack of academic performance, social relationships and authoritarian parenting style. It has a non- significant correlation with poor family relationship and authoritative parenting. Therefore, it can be concluded smartphone usage affects various aspects of a child’s life. It is suggested that parents should encourage the kids to engage in more outdoor activities and activity-based learning.
