Bipolar disorder is a chronic psychiatric condition characterized by recurrent episodes of mania and depression, which significantly impair emotional regulation, cognitive functioning, and social interactions. This case study examines Nikhil, a 28-year-old MBA graduate, whose professional and personal life has been severely impacted by bipolar disorder. Utilizing the 5P framework—presenting complaints, predisposing factors, precipitating factors, perpetuating factors, and protective factors—the study explores genetic predisposition, early-life stressors, occupational challenges, and maladaptive coping mechanisms that contribute to his condition. Nikhil’s symptoms intensified following major life events, including parental loss, divorce, and job instability, which led to emotional dysregulation, substance abuse, and aggressive behaviour. Despite previous psychiatric consultations, inconsistent treatment adherence further exacerbated his condition. This study evaluates a multimodal treatment approach that incorporates pharmacotherapy (mood stabilizers, antipsychotics), psychotherapy (CBT, DBT, psychoeducation), and lifestyle modifications to enhance symptom management and prevent relapse. Findings highlight the necessity of early intervention, medication adherence, and psychosocial support in stabilizing mood fluctuations and improving functioning. By analysing Nikhil’s experiences, this study provides insights into the complexities of bipolar disorder, emphasizing a holistic treatment approach that integrates medical and psychological strategies to enhance long-term prognosis and quality of life.
