Abstract

Internet addiction and social media use have become pervasive in contemporary society, with far-reaching consequences for individuals of all ages. As technology advances, an increasing number of people rely on social media platforms and devote considerable time online. However, this increased reliance on social media and the internet has raised concerns about potential addiction and its impact on the health of individuals. The aim of the current research was to study the relationship between social media use, internet addiction with academic performance, attention deficit and hyperactive tendencies among young Indian adults. A total sample of 120 young adults (60 Males and 60 Females) in the age 18-25 were taken. Standardized scales were used to measure above stated variables. Findings are supportive that ADHD is associated with lower academic performance, higher internet addiction tendencies and increased engagement in social networking activities. Moreover, internet addiction and social networking have been found to be negatively correlated with academic performance. Also, no gender differences were found. These results highlight the importance of understanding the impact of ADHD, internet addiction and social networking use on academic outcomes and the potential need for interventions.
