Abstract

The mind-body relationship has always been the centre of attention for a lot of studies in the field of medicine, corporate entities, as well as mental health trials and research. From this, the idea of psychoneuroimmunology, a branch of psychology that studies the causal-effect relationship between psychology, Immunology and neurology and how they interact with each other to enhance or disrupt one's overall well-being, emerged. This review aims to understand how a ‘leaky gut’ and other factors of gut permeability can impact the process of neuroinflammation in an individual and how this interplay influences the effectiveness of the mind-body communication. It also shed light on the need for a dynamic interventional approach that includes the use of probiotics to enhance the gut-brain axis.
