Keywords:

This study investigates the relationship between social media usage and cognitive abilities among young adults aged 18–25, while also examining potential gender differences in usage patterns and cognitive outcomes. Using a quantitative, correlational research design, data were collected from 100 participants via a structured online questionnaire assessing social media habits and cognitive self-assessment. Results revealed a moderate to strong positive correlation between so- cial media usage and cognitive abilities, suggesting that higher engagement may enhance cognitive functions such as memory and attention. No significant gender differences were found in social media usage or cognitive abilities. These findings challenge assumptions that social media is inherently detrimental, indicating that moderate, purposeful use may support cognitive development. Limitations include a small sample size and reliance on self-reported data, suggesting the need for larger, longitudinal studies with objective measures.
