Abstract

The research investigated the intricate connection between narcissistic personality traits and subjective well-being, as well as their impact on coping skills in a sample of (N=100) young adults. Employing the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) and the Pathological Narcissistic Inventory (PNI) to measure narcissistic personality traits, alongside the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) to gauge subjective well-being, the study delves into the potential adverse effects of heightened narcissistic traits on psychological well-being. Utilizing a convenient sampling approach, the findings revealed a substantial negative correlation between narcissistic personality traits and subjective well-being, suggesting that as narcissistic traits escalate, overall well-being tends to diminish. The statistical analysis, facilitated through SPSS software, incorporates Pearson's correlation to scrutinize the strength and direction of this relationship. The outcomes contribute valuable insights to the existing body of knowledge on the intersection of personality traits and mental well-being among young adults. The study underscores the imperative need for further exploration and nuanced understanding of the intricate dynamics between narcissistic traits, coping skills, and subjective well-being. As consistent with prior research, the results emphasize the significance of considering individual differences in comprehending the interplay between narcissistic personality traits and the psychological well-being of young adults. Future research recommendations include expanding the study with a more diverse and extensive sample, as well as integrating qualitative components to gain a comprehensive understanding of the observed correlation.
