EXAMINING THE MEDIATING ROLE OF COMMUNICATION PATTERNS ON ATTACHMENT STYLES

Abstract

This study investigates the mediating influence of communication patterns on attachment styles, focusing on verbal and non-verbal communication, and their impact on the development of secure attachment among young adults. Grounded in attachment theory, which underscores the significance of early relationships in shaping later emotional and interpersonal functioning, this research employs qualitative methods and theme analysis. The study reveals that verbal communication plays a crucial role in fostering the key characteristics of secure attachment, such as creating a safe environment for open dialogue, building trust, resolving conflicts, enabling clear conversation, and promoting emotional intimacy. Furthermore, non-verbal cues complement verbal affirmations, enhancing the depth of interpersonal connections. These findings highlight the importance of effective communication in cultivating secure attachment styles, thus contributing to a deeper understanding of relational dynamics and psychological well-being among young adults.
