Abstract

Leadership is the ability of an individual to guide, inspire, and influence other groups toward achieving a shared goal. Effective Leadership involves setting a clear vision, making strategic plans and decisions, and fostering an environment where collaboration and personal growth can flourish. Leaders are known for their self-confidence, strong communication and management skills, willingness to take risks, levelheadedness, and reactiveness in times of crisis. Those with high emotional intelligence can identify their emotions, understand their impact, and manage them appropriately. They can also interpret and respond to the emotions of others effectively which helps in navigating social interactions and making informed decisions. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, perceive, manage, and handle emotions. Emotional intelligence is a broad domain that focuses on sustainable skills like self- awareness, self-regulation, empathy, effective communication, motivation and social skills. Emotional intelligence is crucial for sustainable and successful leadership. This chapter studies the impact of emotionally intelligent leaders on growth, employee engagement, and overall performance in the long run. Emotionally intelligent leaders are more adaptable, better communicators, and skilled at resolving conflicts within their teams, all of which can contribute to successful sustainability projects. It further examines how EI influences resilience, adaptability, and conflict resolution, key qualities that ensure sustainable leadership. The chapter uncovers how leaders can cultivate and leverage EI for more adaptability, drive long-term success, and contribute to sustainable effectiveness. This chapter also emphasizes how EI influences resilience and conflict resolution and the need for continuous development of EI as an ongoing leadership asset, ensuring navigation of challenges and sustaining high performance over time.
